vlingo for developers

Developer Program Overview

For the first time, differentiating your application with industry-leading speech recognition is as simple as changing a few lines of code

You've developed a really superb mobile application. It's useful, it works and it's slick. So, why aren't more people using it?

Perhaps it's because they are humans. And humans like to communicate through speaking — especially compared to typing on a tiny keypad. It's also hard to input text while on the go. But talking? We can do that anytime, anywhere.

Now, by integrating vlingo's technology into your application's text box, you can let people talk to their phones in plain English instead of multitapping to enter information.

Now, you may be thinking "yeah, I've seen voice recognition before." But not like this. Just speak naturally. No following a script. No limits on the words your users can speak. Freely mix speaking with typing if you want. Industry-leading accuracy. And when it does make a mistake (as any machine or human will occasionally do), there's a good chance it can be corrected with a simple point and click correction interface.

Perhaps best of all, integrating vlingo into your application is almost as easy as speaking. If you're using J2ME Forms or BREW, adding speech to a text box can take as little as 5 lines of code (J2ME Canvas is a bit more).

Vlingo's software development kit (SDK) provides you with everything you need to successfully integrate speech into your applications. The core of the SDK is our API, which is designed to replace your existing client-based text box code. Just link in our library and change a few lines of your existing code. That's it! We give you total control over the graphical layout of the box — just as you have now — so you won't have to redesign your screens. You can be up and running in less than a day.

Vlingo technology supports all major mobile platforms, and we're an approved BREW Extension Developer.

We do all the heavy lifting on our servers. Since the client is lightweight, we take up only a modest amount of storage on the handheld device, leaving plenty of room for your application and associated data.

Availability & Developer Participation

Our J2ME SDK and BREW SDK are currently in beta, and are planned for general availability in the seconf quarter of 2008. Various smart phone platforms will be added during the first half of 2008.
